(Summary of Governor's Policy)
In meeting the responsibilities towards children with special needs we seek to plan a curriculum which embraces the needs of pupils of all abilities. The school will strive towards identifying and ensuring a positive response to those with Special Education Needs and to establishing a close working partnership with their parents
We adhere to a ‘Code of Practice' which is designed to identify special needs and progresses through various stages. At differing times and for differing reasons children are added to the special needs register. Parents and Parents/Carers are contacted at each step of the process and are kept informed of progress made.
Additional help is given to pupils with a wide range of special needs including, for example, hearing loss, mobility problems, reading difficulties and the problems of the very able pupil. This help may include the provision of suitable resources, additional teaching and classroom assistance, or simply the careful monitoring of the child's progress.
The school is supported by advice and assistance from specialist teams including Educational Psychologists and learning support teachers. There is also a special needs Governor and designated member of staff.
